This was a great place to stay when we were in the U.P. We rented two of the rooms, wich are apartments that have a working kitchen with pots and pans. There was plenty of room in them for six people to congregrate in the evenings. The place may not have all the modern things like a whirlpool bathub, but they did have a great clawfoot one and everything was restored nicely in the rooms.

The food downstairs was very good. The salad that my wife had there is the benchmark for all other salads she has in restaurants. All of the other food we had there was very good. We recomend trying the house Green Goddess dressing. They have a great oatmeal beer and extensive wine and beer list.

Live music on Friday really was a nice touch. It was a busy place whenever we were there. I would recomend it very much.

One of the best kept secrets of the U.P. We ended up staying here during the Lake Superior Pro Rally. The accomodations we're remminiscant of what things used to be like in the golden days. The ambiance is wonderful with a beautiful mural above the bar that was painted in the 1900's. Awesome selection of import and local beers, there is a microbrewery on site. The food was delicious, some of the best french fries I've ever had. We plan on making this an annual trip, if you get a chance to stay there take the angler suite it's like a 2 bedroom apartment with plenty of room to sleep 4 adults.

Michigan House Cafe: The owner who is from downstate michigan, came up here in hopes of starting a nice cozy little cafe with a hotel, encountered many obstacles that are often present with the building in the local area. Neglect, weatherrering, aging. Yet personal opinions aside about the owners, This place has some of the best food I have tasted in a while. The cedar broiled trout, and the pepper corn cognac steak, are a true pleasure. Especially on friday and saturday nights with the blues playing in the back ground, and the booze is smooth, and the waitresses are cute.
