User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsJust got back from spending a few day in Des Moines and @ the Hotel Fort Des Moines. The hotel lobby and rooms have character. The front desk people could be a bit more friendly. They weren't rude but they didn't go out of their way to be friendly. A little less then plesant might be a good way of describing them. We were on the 7th floor and had hot water and it didn't take 10 minutes. The bed was soft not lumpy and we had back aches. The sofa in the livingroom was horrible and the "wet bar" area was just wasted space. Had dinner one evening at Raccoon River Brewery. I wouldn't rave about the food. To me it was more like over priced mass produced buffet food. Neat building though. One evening we wanted to stay in and veg and eat pizza. Called down to the desk and asked about pizza places. Was told the name of place close by but wasn't given the number. Gee wouldn't you offer your guest a phone number? I wouldn't rule out staying there again but I think I will look for something else. Definately not a gotta stay there kinda place because it was so great.

Horrible! My girlfriend and I, were in bed talking and got kicked out, onto the streets at 3 in the morning with NO calls, NO warnings! We are from another state and had to walk four miles with all of our luggage, etc. in the pouring rain and try to find another hotel room. Worst hotel experience in the World. Horrific management and service. If you want to get kicked out of your room at 3 in the morning without any warning for doing NOTHING wrong than stay here!
