Took my girlfriend to the Boat House for Valentines Dinner. As we past Texas Road House after a movie their parking lot was full. As was Red Lobster's... Boat House's parking lot was nearly empty which should have been our first clue. I will admit they have a nice view, nice menu selection and a friendly staff. But given all of those atributes it's not enough to carry this place for any recommendation. The food is over priced. Portions are small. Quality is extremely poor. I've eaten at a lot of places in the Quad Cities and around the country. I've never sent anything back ever! Until I went to the Boat House. I ordered a Sirloin Steak medium well. They presented me with a small roast which was charred outside and raw inside. They re-cooked it and brought it back with same SMALL baked potato (cold) The steak was so aweful I couldn't eat it. Tough and poorest flavor I've ever had. For 25.99, I had a small bland salad, a small potato and a lump of black meat on a plain plate with no garnishes. They took $20 off my bill and said "sorry about that" Even my girlfriends meal was poor but edible (small and over priced) She had shrimp.
This place needs a kitchen rescue bad! If they want to charge these kinds of prices, up the quality, portion sizes and give it a better presentation to at least make it look appealing.
My Wife and I went to the Boat House today for Lunch today.
I ordered salad & ½ Corned Beef, She ordered a Burger & Fries.
Her Burger had a hair sticking out of it & my Romaine
Salad was brown, wilted (old) had a tomato that was really wrinkled-up,
and a very old sliced cumber(brown around the edges).
Our waitress saw this & agreed they were bad, apologized, and
took them back to the kitchen. Her Burger & Fries came back out,
the patty was now broken into pieces, and they forgot to ‘Dress’ the burger.
One the third bite of her Fries, there was a hair that was stuck one
of them. She asked the Manager about this, and his reply to her was:
“Not from my kitchen, no one back there has any hair” and did not
offer an apology, only the fact that that could not have happed here.
(We did see a guy in the kitchen with a Rally-Cap on his head. He
did have hair & a partial beard)
When my salad came back out, there was Dirt on the leaves, I wiped it
off and showed the waitress, who said I’m so very sorry!
I went to talk to the manager about this, & he said he had no
idea how hair had gotten into the food twice, and he said he was in
the process of investigating it. As far as the salad went,
he assured me that he re-made it himself, and there was absoutly
nothing wrong with it. I asked about the dirt that I wiped off of it and
showed the waitress, his reply was he was going to look into it. He
did, finally, at this point offer an apology & offered to remove the charge from our bill.
I’m pretty sure he only did this as there were several other customers now
interested in what was going on.
Came in at 9p.m. on a Friday and wanted to sit outside for drinks. There were no customers inside, and 2 empty tables outside. We were told outside was only for diners. I mentioned we could spend our money there or go home. They said it was policy. It was 9p.m. in the QC. People do not eat late here! We went home. I called to talked to the owner, who stated the same policy. We had not been there in several years, and will not to attempt to go ever again. POOR SERVICE!!!
