I'd like to give 4.5 stars, but you have to rate in whole numbers. The food was excellent, but they seemed understaffed. There were only 3 tables with diners, but several folks at the bar, and they were doing a brisk take out business. One was tending bar, cooking and giving out the take out, the other was waiting on and cleaning tables. And why don't they have knives on the tables??
OK, the good stuff. The dinner for 2 was excellent, though quite a bit more expensive than we're used to paying. ($35) Food was excellent quality. I would say that was the best soup I've ever had in a Chinese restaurant. The appetizer platter was good, glad to see someone still has those ribs. Very good egg rolls.
We're searching for a replacement for our favorite restaurant, Golden Dragon on S. 27th st., which seems to have death written all over it. Aging owner, quality slipping, very few diners when we go,.. It will be a sad day indeed. But Ho Ho's won't be too hard to go to!
Great Neighborhood Chinese Restaurant: I owned my first Comic Book Store across the street from Ho Ho's and was very impressed by their food and value. It's been some time since I've been back to eat there but I'm definitely making the trip soon. Something to look forward to!
hidden pleasure: this is truly a southside hidden treasure . it has a variety of great plates and you can also purchase a little souvenier before you leave. i am a chinese food fanatic and this is on the top 10 in the many places in the country that ive been to. come and enjoy this southside pleasure.
