This is probably my favorite place in Milwaukee. If you are a beer enthusiast this is the place to go. The location in the third ward sucks for parking, but is great for atmosphere. Sometimes it can be too smoky and loud in the upper area, but there is a nice downstairs bar. During the nicer season (all three months of it in WI) the back patio is open and it is great to sit back along the river, enjoying downtown and a cold brew. The food is good but nothing too special, but the highlight here is the beer. It is that good, I would rate Ale House a three maybe four for the old beer hall feel, and nice outdoor area. This is the place to go for beer lovers in Milwaukee. Deal with the few annoyances, like parking and smoking and it is a great place.

We love the Ale House and we just recently visited the Grafton location since we moved to Port Washington. Awesome. It met and exceeded our expectations. You never know with a restaurant expanding what the outcome is going to be and we are so happy we have our favorite downtown location...now closer to home. Their brews that are specific to Grafton are great as well.

great live jazz!: great live original jazz on some saturdays during the dinner hour. otherwise pretty poor service and the food is just bar food and expensive. but the music is well worth it!
