I am legally deaf and went to see the latest performance at the Overture center. I was super excited to find out that they had interpretors available. I can read lips if I can see them, but I was able to save money by not getting the front most seats. I made the reservation to have the interpretor be at the performance and found out when I got there that the interpretor was unable to make it. I was very disappointed and strained to read lips the entire time. I probably will go again, but i will call inadvance to make sure that the interpretor will actually be there.
Hairspray: We were season ticket holders for the Madison Civic Center and now the Overture's Broadway Series. We have also attended other productions offered there through the years. We have had very few instances for which we were not happy with the experience. Last night at "Hairspray," everyone in our party commented on the quality of the sound. Many words in the songs were not clear. We missed some of the speaking roles also. I did make a comment to one of the ushers and she said that she would pass it along. The production itself, was very enjoyable. The cast was excellent. By missing some of the conversation and lyrics, we felt we missed some of the nuances that give a little more insight into total story. I am sure this was a fluke, but just wanted to make someone aware of it.

Please do call ahead. As I understand it they will schedule interpretors based on need, but not for every performance. It's frequent that they will have at least one if not two ASL interpreted performances available for each event.
