Chautara is reliably good for vegetarian foods. We often go there before a Madison Repertory Theater production.
Namaste: FYI - Chautara is the district heaquarters for the Sindhulpalchok District in Nepal. I sat upstairs at a table overlooking State Street, I really liked the atmosphere, the music and the smell of this place. I had the Momo for an appetizer which is similar to a Chinese steamed dumpling but is served with almost a Mexican fresh salsa, delicious. I chose the salad with poppyseed dressing and the Beef Korma, both of which were outstanding. The Beef Korma consists of large chunks of very tender beef covered in a Coriander sauce with peas and a side of rice, it's probably actually a little more complex than that but I'm not sure of all of the ingredients. I have no complaints whatsoever and I can't wait to return to try some of the other dishes.
Hippest outdoor sopt in town: Very tasty food, Like Indian, but less hot. The experience cannot be beat on nice summer evening outdoors. On Madison's people watching friendly street, State Street.
