Sarento's is basically a restaurant that is part of the Wilderness Resort properties.
It was a very busy Friday night. I had the NY strip, my wife had the veal, my daughter had the linguini, and her friend had a vegetable pizza. Overall, the food was adequate, but the service was very good. In fact, I was very pleased that even when the place was packed, that the place was very organized.
The other thing I did like was that if you are staying at the Wilderness Hotel or Resort, they have a shuttle that will take you to the restaurant and back free of charge.
The food filled a niche (not overly expensive, and not over-processed chain-Italian style) nicely and the atmosphere was warm. It was one of the few places in the area we've been to (we're locals) that wasn't overrun by screaming children. (We have had meals at much more expensive places here ruined by whiny children who should have been in bed much earlier.) The service at Sarento's was lukewarm at best. We split a meal, not for mercenary reasons, but since restaurant food portions have become insanely oversized. We each had a glass of wine, split an appetizer, an entree ($2 split fee...most places actually SPLIT the entree for you - Sarento's did not), and a dessert. The waitress was clearly annoyed with our choice to split a meal and her service (or less than enthusiastic demeanor) showed as much. Our tip showed OUR annoyance. It was my birthday, and I was looking to overtip and make some server's day. So much for that idea. We still tipped 17%, but had wanted to give much more.
a very imersive atmosphere: the most intricate decor of any restaurant in the dells. great canolli. the only down side is that they don't allow cigars.
