A great cafe where you can enjoy delicious light fare foods. One can sit for hours reading, working on the computer, homework, or even play a number of board and other games the cafe provides! They sometimes have music in the front of the cafe that is always good! The walls are covered with local artists work that if you like, you are able to purchase! And, they make my iced chai just the way I like it, and turned me on to hot pb&j sandwiches!
One of the best places in Green Bay. The food is GREAT, the atmosphere is wonderful, and there is a great mix of customers. There are high school and college kids studying, yuppies out for lunch, friends playing board games, and sometimes live music. It is a wonderful place to go with friends on a friday night when you are sick of the bars or to take your mom out to lunch. I've been going there since they opened, when there was no place else for an underage college kid to go on a Friday night, and it has only gotten better since then.
I love all their deserts and their soda selection, and the black bean burger is amazing. All their sandwiches are good and are served with yummy chips. I don't really do coffee, but their Mexican hot chocolate is one of my favorite drinks in the world and something I've never been able to find anywhere else. The staff are always friendly and the place is funky and fun, with a unique and decidedly non-corporate coffee house feel.
Kavarna is a great coffee shop. It is fairly close to where I live and I really like the area on Broadway where it is located. The coffee has always been good there and they have a very good food menu of sandwiches and healthy items. I go there at least a few times a month it seems and it has been consistently good. They have won the Golden Fork award for Best Coffee Shop a few times and are pretty much just what you think of when you think of the stereotypical funky coffee shop that is kind of grungy but cool looking in an older storefront building. When I say grungy I mean in the decor not in the cleanliness because the place always looks very clean and nicely kept up to me. It's just an older building that has that older character to it that they have maintained.
The sandwiches have always been real good there and the coffee has too. I can't comment on anything other than the brewed coffee and smoothies for drinks. Have never had just an espresso or tea there, just coffee and occasionally a smoothie, and those have always been good. They do have a nice selection of bakery-type items and those have been good too. It is a very relaxing place to sit and have a sandwich.
Kavarna also has art on the walls like a lot of coffee shops do and I like that. It's cool to see what local artists are doing and it's great that there are places like Kavarna that will show their art. I just wrote a review for the Stumpjack Cafe over on East mason street - actually on Huron just off of East Mason I guess, to be accurate - and these two are very different and yet both very good. Kavarna is more of like the old downtown neighborhood coffee shop where the art types work and hang out and Stumpjack is more like the new kid on the block but with a more modern and maybe hip attitude. Kavarna is like the comfortable old pair of jeans you have with the holes in the knees and the grass stains. Stumpjack Cafe is like the new but still comfortable pair of jeans you have. Both places are great.
I like going to Kavarna too in the summer time because it's always nice to walk down Broadway on a sunny day on a weekend. It's a great neighborhood with lots of cool shops. I would tell anyone that likes coffee and cool coffee shops to go to Kavarna and give them a try. You will be glad you did.
