We hired PortSide Builders for an addition to our home. We found them to be thorough and helpful every step of the way. Our Custom Designer came out to our home and after listening to our ideas, he made a few suggestions which we loved. The final design for our family room addition provided us with more room than we expected and even a covered deck.
We found the cost to be very competitive and there were no surprise cost added on at the end of construction. The price quoted was the cost we ended up with. Sometimes we would ask about changing something during the construction but we were told what the cost would be to up-grade. We decided each time not to up-grade and use the products we had quoted from the start.
Our construction coordinator kept us informed of what would be happening next. It was very important to keep things orderly and neat whereas we lived at the home during this construction with our five children.
PortSide's construction crew were courteous and professional. The finish work on our home is outstanding and we get compliments on it all the time.
The remodeling stayed on schedule which again was important since we were living there. The subcontractors PortSide used were also very professional and proficient in the work they provided.
We love our addition and will definitely use PortSide again.
Positives: Always willing to come back to fix any mistakes. Craftsmanship generally of very high quality. Having the design/build team integrated makes going from design to build easy. Their office has lots of samples of building materials to look at, which saves on some of the driving around. Generally meets deadlines.
Negatives: Very Expensive. Project managers often coordinate as many as 8 houses at a time, which decreases the amount of time they spend at your house, and increases errors. Project managers often difficult to get ahold of, which can be incredibly frustrating.
They built a nice house, but we probably wouldn't use them again given the cost and headaches of dealing with them.
