Hi All, I just called to comfirm they were open and the phone message said it was closed...I liked the meat loaf sandwich...
*WARNING, MAJOR MENU CHANGES, LESS OFFERED* Water City Grill used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Oshkosh. That changed on 2/13/09. When my wife and I went there, we found the menu to be drastically changed with far fewer options, including no longer offering the entrees we specifically went there for. I used to get the Mediterranean Burger with a veggie patty substituted for meat and my wife used to get the hummus sandwich. The waitress informed us neither could even be made anymore. We also always ordered the blueberry bread pudding, which is no longer offered either. In place of what we normally ordered, there are now only several vegetarian options. My wife ordered a $15 lasagna which was nothing special and I had a flat bread pizza, which also was nothing special. There was one other $15 vegetarian option, which I already have tried and did not like and a greek salad that is only average. On another note, the quality and availability of items has always been spotty at this restaurant, which seems strange considering how they advertise having such good chefs. The wait staff was nice and courteous.
I love the idea of this restaurant but the reality of it always seems to disappoint. I get excited remembering my first meal there (was excellent) but every time I go back, I'm disappointed. Usually it's the food that disappoints, especially since the last menu change. The options are sig. pricier and the selection is questionable. I'd show you the website menu, but they didn't pay their web host bill so the site's been removed (which also meant I couldn't tell the restaraunt owner about my most recent experience - since all staff there were extremely rude).
As for the last time I visited, the service was awful. We waited five minutes before we were seated with the excuse, "oh, we just opened 10 minutes ago". The table we were seated at was dirty and my spoon had chunks of food on it. When I complained to the waitress I got major attitude. Then, the bartender turned up the TV and blasted the whole restaraunt with the news. I wanted to take my mom for a nice lunch, not a news update. When I asked the waitress to have them turn it down, again I got major attitude. RThen, when I asked about a lunch menu, the waitress snottily told us "the soups and sandwiches *are* the lunch menu". I was looking for a reasonably priced smaller portion meal option really. I'm not much of a soup and sandwich person and the prices have gone sky high since their last menu update. I loathe to spend $20+ a person for a "quick lunch". Finally, when I went to order the soup that was listed on the "today's special" I was informed that it was yesterday's soup so they didn't have it.
In the end my mother ordered a glass of milk (glass was dirty but she drank it anyway) and we left. When I tried talking to the hostess on the way out, she walked away (I hadn't even rasied my voice but she wanted no part of anything that didn't involve a tip)
We ended up eating at Golden Corral. Less than half the price and friendly service. The menu is obviously different, but at least I leave feeling satisfied rather than seeing red.
