Giuseppes is one of the most authentic italian places we have been to. they make their own sauces, breads, dressings, and gnocchi! we loved it. It is a small neighborhood place tucked in new brighton. Their baked rigatoni is made with fresh mushroom and homemade meatball, GREAT!! This place is perfect for a date night or a place to bring the whole family
we read the reviews and their bread is everything that it is hyped up to be. It was absolutly the best. Fresh and interesting there is nothing like it anywhere. If you want something different than all the big chain, cookie cutter blahh... Giuseppe's is the place to be
We really enjoyed Giuseppe's. I've tried many different items on the menu and everything is really good. The service is so personable, I alway feel as though I'm part of the family. Every opportunity my husband and I have to enjoy a night out we come to Giuseppe's. I know we'll have amazing food no matter what we order and we're able to have a quiet conversation. I would recommend Giuseppe's all day long to anyone!
This Italian-American restaurant is obviously well-loved; the reviews here are excellent, there are several suburban newspaper awards for "Best Italian" on the wall, and the place was fairly crowded when we came (only two open tables, though the restaurant is small). So maybe we hit it on an off night, but when we dined, the food ranged from bad to bland.
The fresh bread would fall into the "bland" category. It is plain white bread, soft (not a crusty peasant-type bread) without being too mushy. It was fine, but not exciting. I had minestrone to start, which was slightly seasoned, and surprisingly did not contain beans. Not bad, but not great either. My husband, however, had a chowder which was so overly thick. Of course you don't want runny chowder, but this was gloppy. My pasta with spinach was very oily. My husband's pasta with red sauce was, again, okay, but a bit on the bland side.
Our server came to our table twice with the wrong food.
Overall, we can't figure out what the big deal is. Maybe folks in New Brighton don't get out much? At any rate, for better pasta, we recommend Broder's Pasta Bar in Minneapolis, or even a chain like Romano's Macaroni Grill, which is at the relatively near-by Rosedale Mall. Or, if you refuse to leave the immediate neighborhood, try a new cuisine and go to neighboring Fridley for some excellent Korean food at King's.

plain white bread? They make pepperoni bread, bread with spinach or tomatoes stuffed inside of it. It was anything but plain. You ordered plain pasta with oil and spinach?? You call that Italian?? Your husband ordered plain pasta with red sauce and complained about it being bland?? Did you happen to notice the red pepper and parmesan cheese on your table? It is what Italians add to their red sauce to add some flavor. Maybe we "don't get out much" but we know how to order real italian. Maybe you should get a sense of adventure and actually order something that isn't bland before you complain about it being bland.
The plain white bread is what they brought with the meal. I ordered pasta with spinach. The oil I mentioned was a bit suprising; I like olive oil, but I don't expect my pasta to be oily. I have not been able to travel much outside the U.S. -- just Canada, which hardly counts, and England -- but I've lived and traveled throughout the continental U.S. and am a relatively adventurous eater (did you see that I recommended Korean food?); my husband is even more adventurous than I am. In my opinion, the mark of a good chef is one who prepares food that does not need much, if any, seasoning added when the food is put on the table. You should not be saying, "Hmmmm. This needs something."
I'm sorry I have to agree with MamaK. I, too, thought the food was going to be better because of all the great reviews but when I went there we were served the plain white bread mentioned above. I was like "hmmmm...what's all the talk about the bread?" It sounds like they have other great food but that wasn't my experience there either.
