We had a great experience renting their. All issues were handled in a timely and friendly manner. Very nice people to work with and a nice place to live.
My experience with Southland Court Apartments was the WORST I have had in dealing with a property manager. The property manager entered our apartment without notice, entered a fellow tennant's apartment to use their restroom, towed the car of another resident while they were on vacation, and moved another car by entering the apartment and using the tennants keys. (The owners of the cars were on vacation for a couple of days before notice was displayed to move their vehicles.)
The property manager has no respect for the tennants homes. It is treated as if it is her property and not your home. I understand that I do not own the apartment but it is where I live and what I call home.
I would advise anyone looking to live in these apartments to think otherwise. You will regret your decision to live in these apartments.
I lived at Southland Court nearly 6 years. It was mostly very pleasant, and Liz was very, very good to me. :-) Thanks Liz!
The apartments are nice and big, the north view from building 1910 is splendid. Hallways and laundry rooms are kept clean and in good repair. Owners changed about halfway in for me, and things have gone downhill as far as repairs in the apartments themselves. The exterior looks tons better though, and noisy tenants are quickly booted if they become a nuisance to others.
Just FYI--you will have to badger Dave at least twice to get anything repaired, and it still may not happen. Liz said I should have told her that my bathroom faucet leaked for a year (I told her when I was moving out), but when I used to tell her things that needed repair, she told me to tell Dave! So, what to do? I asked Dave twice and he said a faucet was on order, and it never was fixed. Tell Liz if he blows you off, and then it'll get done. ;-)
Rent is very high for a complex with 0 amenities (no pool, no playground, no anything), and cable/internet is not included in the bill--though you will be forced to pay for it, whether or not you use it--though there is at least one tenant who refused to pay it (or so he claimed) and has gotten away with it while others pay. So add $50 to whatever they tell you the rent is. Windows ice up in the winter in every apartment--Liz told one of my neighbors (or so he claimed) that his windows were icy because of his 'lifestyle.' What the heck is THAT supposed to mean--was he smoking icicles, or what? lol But unless you're really hooked on looking out of your windows year-round, it kinda goes with living in an older building.
Anyway, I moved to Sioux Falls because it was cheaper than Brookings, but SF doesn't have a housing shortage, which is why rentals are so high in Brookings. Otherwise, other than repairs that don't get done unless you bug and bug, it's a nice complex in a very easy and convenient location--close to grocery, restaurants, and malls.
