I went to Red Lodge Cafe on a Thursday morning. The building is very old, but they tables were made out of log furniture, and there were huge paintings of the area hanging. I ordered two scrambled eggs, hasbrowns, and a biscuit. The eggs were fine, and the hasbrowns were crispy and hot- just they way I like them. They were on the greasy side, but that is what makes them crispy. The homemade biscuit was nothing to rave about. Service was good and the dining area clean. My order was about $7. There were two downsides to this restaurant though. They do not offer healthy menu items such as skim milk (they only have whole) and do not offer egg subsitutes/EggBeaters (only whole eggs). So if you have special dietary needs, this would not be a good place for you. But if you like just a basic breakfast, this would be the place to go to in Red Lodge. I would probably go back, since the other breakfast restaurants I tried were not good (example is Regis Cafe).
They served me the greatest breakfast sauage patty I've ever eaten. GIANT! Nearly a burger-sized patty. The food was just sooo tasty, I was making yummy noises with every bite. Sure the waitresses are a bit aloof and no-nonsense, but that's part of the charm of the place, I think. They've probably been working there a looong time, it's a small town. Seemed like a lot of locals & hikers came there to chit-chat about the weather. I enjoyed the atmosphere. And I didn't see or hear any poker machines at all. They had a lounge in a separate room, perhaps they were there. But in the main dining area, there aren't any annoying machines.
Not very impressed: Had breakfast there, and it was chaos. Only one waitress was doing anything, the others all stood around or ignored you. Food was okay, but took forever to get. May have changed since 2003, but I'm not willing to try it out.

Again the same food as every where else except this comes with a hint of ashtray and stale liquor. Also the sound of poker machines makes it just like Las Vegas. On a scale of 1 to 10, this place gets a big fat ZERO.
