We visited L & D in the summer of 2002 while on vacation. (Home is San Jose, CA) We were staying at Jorgenson's Hotel & passed it our first night heading back to the hotel after sight seeing & didn't stop. (I was not keen on the idea of Chinese food in Helena, didn't think it'd be any good.)
The second night, my husband suggested it again & we stopped. Boy am I glad we did!
Hands down the best Chinese buffet I've ever experienced. I don't think anything we had that night was bad! My mother, a huge crab leg fan, was in heaven.
We went back to our hotel rooms stuffed to the gills & remember the place fondly. If I"m ever back in that part of the west, & I hope I am, I'll make a bee line to L & D!
Having homes in the SF Bay area and Helena, I'm know and am used to good Chinese food with variety. I love this place because I can always eat a bucketful of broccoli and other vegetables cooked in authentic sauces. The staff greets you and seats you, you serve yourself. I eat there every other day when I'm in town and have consistently seen the same faces for a year and a half, always friendly and smiling when they see me come through the door. Chicken, beef, pork, imitation crab (it's fish and it's fine) and real crab legs are there along with a plethora of veggies, soups, fruits, and desserts. What else can one want. Puts Jade Garden to shame, this place is real. When I can eat like this for $10, I don't care about the ambiance. It is what it is, and it's great to me. Reminds me of wonderful small Chinese joints back in California with several styles of food, not all bland Cantonese. They'll always get my business, been going here since 1999. And there's one in Butte, too, maybe more. L&D stands for lunch and dinner.
The L & D is a great change of pace as it is a Buffet style of Chinese and the variety is endless. In the evening after 4pm they have some of the best seafood fish, Shrimp, and Crableggs Helena has to offer. They also have a nice variety of Chinese deserts and pastries to top off their excellent Chinese meals. If you don't want to indulge yourself in the wonderful Buffet you may also order from a menu but keep in mind you won't get to pick from the many different items on the Buffet. The serving staff is quick and effcent and most have been with the company for quite some time. They have a great memory for faces that have been to see them. They make the diner feel as if they are family which is a great bonus you don't pay extra for. I have eaten every thing they put on the menu and it is all good as well as the price you pay for all you can eat is unbeatable.
