Granted, Hong Kong Chef isn't going to be something magical that you would find in Chinatown. Many people don't realize that this restaurant has special dishes that set it apart from the rest. The deep fried tofu is amazing.
If you are looking for crappy eggrolls and miscellaneous deep fried garbage, try China Buffet which is nearby. For unique and delicious Chinese food, Hong Kong chef is one of the best places in town. They even deliver now.
Great Food. Good prices, portions are a little small, but overall..really good food.
Dont listen to someone who has decided that Missoula is too "small town" for Chinese..I have lived in larger cities and Hong Kong Chef is right up to par with alot of places there.I would order out, however, since the restaurant is connected to a casino and you can smell smoke from time to time.
The best in Missoula isn't saying much.: Had takeout from this place, it seemed fine and was the best I've had in Missoula.
WARNING- if you are from the East or West Coast do not expect any Chinese restaurant to match up to what you have in Missoula. I have literally been to ALL of the Chinese places in Missoula and not one of them makes an egg roll better than the frozen ones you can get at Super-WalMart. Do not expect a large, crisp egg roll packed with shredded cabbage and bright red pork- you'll be sorely disappointed when the narrow, greasy, over-fried SPRING ROLL arrives. Duck sauce to put on that egg roll? Nobody in Missoula knows what real duck sauce is so they either look at you like you are stupid or give you packets of reddish-orange stuff that simply doesn't taste right. My advice? When in Missoula, get a burger and a beer, Mexican food, even the Thai is passable, but don't bother with Chinese if you've ever had it anywhere else.
