My wife and I had not been here in twenty years and the occasion arose for us to stop by and have dinner. Has it ever gotten worse! My favorite thing used to be the nachos. They would fill a plate with home made chips and place a spoonful of refried beans on each chip and put a slice of jalepeno pepper on each one, unless you asked for two slices each. That would be covered in chijuajua cheese about a half an inch thick and broiled. The resulting dish would be served hot with a golden brown surface and only some little bumps that indicated the spoonfuls of beans on the chips. Yesterday I ordered the nachos with fond memories of a bygone era. When they came out, there were several chips scattered around and oval serving plate. There was only a bit of cheese on each one and a bit less sour cream. You could see the brown of the beans under the cheese and there were a few pickled jalepenos and carrots in the center of the plate. I sent it back because I would never consider nachos with sour cream. When the new nachos arrived I picked one up and anxiously took a bite. You just cannot imagine how awful nachos are with American cheese! I asked the waiter what happened to the chijuajua cheese: "you have to order that special" . I asked for the check and paid it. My wife and I decided not to try it again for another twenty years. Talk about the Americanization of Mexican food!
AWFUL!
AWFUL!
We have been going to La Chicanita for more than 28 years. It is now under different management from when we started dining there but, it has maintained the wonderful food, drinks and service. The marguerita's are fantastic. The food authentic, well presented and delicious.
We went there last night. Drinks were very good, had prompt service and the food was very ample, good and the price was right. We will definitely go there again.
