Fremont Area Library is a beautiful building, Prairie Style, brought to life with grit and determination by our former library director, Kelly Krieg-Sigman. She was a little slip of a thing. She left us a good library. It is fully handicapped accessible on both levels, and stocked with books, music cd's, dvd's and even sheet music.
Our current library directory, Scott Davis, is occasionally visible, but clearly competent, as the library has not fallen down around our feet in shambles. I have met him at several events, and he is a well groomed young man, if a bit reserved. He must be good if the board hired him.
Childrens' and Young Adults' sections meet the needs of people from two to about 17 years. Programs are in English and Spanish. Story Time at the Library is a big hit for my grandkids, two little girls and a boy!
The staff in the children's department all seem to have patience with the younger children and teens. It is a terrible thing to see a child abandoned in the children's room with no Mom or Dad in sight. Grandparents are much more responsible, we know there are some bad people in the world, and never leave our little darlings alone!
Adult Services are on both floors. Fiction is on the first floor, which makes the mystery stories right at hand, along with a Wonderful Science Fiction Collection. Historical Fiction is there, and literature from ancient times to today's Best Sellers are all in there!
Non-Fiction is on the second level, where friendly reference librarians guide us among the thousands of volumes, covering any topic you can name, and a few you never heard of. Our reference collection is nothing to sneer at, either. The staff handles questions that would make lesser people tremble, with both professionalism and good will.
The O-guage model railroad on the second floor is popular, even big kids love it. They say it is going away. I fear we will push the geneology department into a completely separate building in five years or so.
Our late director, June Peterson, would be amazed to see how the Library has grown in size and space, filling up this new building. She was the head librarian for many years, may she rest at peace.
One of the joys of my older life is being able to pay a visit to the library. it has been so since my childhood. I hope you will come and check out our lovely library, and perhaps some library materials as well. Make sure you get a library card! Meet you at the Library!
