This small but friendly restaurant makes authentic Chinese food. The entries I like most are tomato pepper beef, BBQ pork fried rice, and egg roll. The dinning area is always kept clean and the price is very reasonable. It definitely worth a try if you happen to be around the Chicago area and you like Chinese food. Oh, and if you are lucky, you may meet with the very friendly and humorous chef too. Talking with him is always a joy.
I have lived in several states in the last 7 years. I could not find any restaurant that can compete with Wah Mei in Chicago. Althought the restaurant is small, it is clean and the food is great. People working there are very friendly and with great service. My top choices are: BBQ pork fried rice, combination fried rice, egg rolls, Orange Chicken, and Wah Mei Beef. Overall, it is the BEST Chinese restaurants that I have ever been to!
Great eggrolls: Believe it or not, this small take out joint was my first job...answering phones and working the register. Years ago...anyway, what I remember about it is that they have great eggrolls and fried rice. The place was kept pretty clean and the family that owned it back then was very fair and pleasant. If you are in Wilmette and need Chinese food fast, not a bad option!
