Al's like back in '95 when all the biscuits was hot!!!!!!!!!
love you AL; hate you britt
My family has been eating at Al's Cafe for many years and we all love it. You are greeted at the door like an old friend. The food is so good, it is hard to make a choice. The servers are wonderful (our favorite is Jeff). If you are looking for a good place to eat, this is it.
I went to Al's Cafe mid August. For 2 sandwiches, a Salad, and a Burns malt($5.25) my bill was over $60 dollars.Far too expensive for me to ever go again. Especially as the Food was at best Fair. The other problem is the vagrants in downtown Elgin following you around for handouts . I hadn't realized how low downtown Elgin has sunk. The only Big Biz in Elgin is the Riverboat. SAD!!!!

There is no way that this person could have spent that much at Al's. A sandwich (AT MOST) costs $9. Also, I would like to mention that any TOWN or CITY there are people asking for handouts. Doesn't in anyway separate Elgin from another town. We are in a recession, come on. I find many other things in Elgin to be defined as "Big Biz" (as you so call it).
Hmmm...I think Britney doesn't quite have her story straight or at least has her math wrong. I can't find any combination of 2 sandwiches, a salad and a Burns malt ($5.25) on the Al's menu (http://bit.ly/AlsCafeMenu) that would even after tax and tip be over $60. This is a great little lunch or dinner spot with a tasty menu and friendly wait staff. Also, if you like coffee shakes Al's Cafe hands down has the best!
Did she eat 6 sandwiches? I think she got it wrong! Any time I've been to Al's, whether it's dinner or lunch, it is NEVER expensive. One of the many positive aspects of Al's is the economical price for the high quality of food. Go to their web site and view their menu - www.alscafe.com - don't take my word. Their prices are published. There is more to Elgin than the Boat! With six independant theatre groups and a world class symphony that plays this weekend - come expand your horizons!!!
I have read all of Britney's comments and they all seem to be about Elgin and negative. If you don't like our city, then stay out. True the riverboat has helped our local economy, but that isn't the only thing that define our city. Elgin rules, Britney drools. Also, if you're going to visit Elgin, you should visit Al's, because it is amazing.
I can't figure out how Britney's bill added up to $60. Al's Cafe not only has reasonable pricing but great food. The food is really top notch, whether a salad (the freshest greens!) or a dinner or malt. The dinners at Al's really are great tasting and a great bargain -- monthly dinner themed dinners are worth the trip. And their signature malts are to die for!
