This place is really aurhentic and the food is wonderful. My wife and I have been here twice, and it gets better as we try more choices. The nargaritas are flavorful, too much ice, but otherwise quite good. the service is slowish, but the food is tasty, well prepared and as you look at the tables around you, it is predominately Mexican locals, family gropus, and that says alot about this place. we had the special dinner for two, and it was quite good. the flan is excellent.
Blue Oasis Cafe? Tenochtitlan? Breakfast? Dinner? Lunch? What is the name of this place? and what direction do you go there? It wants to do breakfast, it wants to do lunch and dinner, it wants to be a bar (with no tv's), but it's bad at everything. The menu is all over the place, the portions are small, and the food I sampled was bland. This place is trying to be a lot and to me is doing nothing well. When we asked for hot sauce the waitress gave us tabasco (with barely any left). How can any self respecting Mexican place give Tabasco as the only hot sauce option. Where are all the great old world sauce recipes that Mexican food is known for. I won't be going back, it's like Chipolte Burrito mixed with Panera Bread, two places I try to avoid at all cost. If you like something authentic and made with some real recipes and emotion, then don't go here. If Chipolte or Panera are your favorite paces, then this is for you. I won't be going back, especially in this neighborhood where there are wonderful authentic places (Mexican and more) within walking distance.
Again - next time we're in Blue Island: This is a cafe / latino restaurant that fits the Blue Island main street perfectly. I was in the area for a bike race and we wanted food to go that was healthy and reflected the community. This is it. With a significant latino population and a community intent to keep "main street" alive versus the strip mall, Blue Oasis Cafe does it well. Good sauces, fresh veggies, and spices that were flavorful, not just hot. Thanks for the live entertainment; we enjoyed the keyboard guy.
