I rode here for several years while living in the chicago area and also shareboarded two horses there and it was excellent facility. It was a great place for kids to get started and very encouraging instructors that knew how to make lessons fun. I loved my days there and shows were a great opportunity to come into showing without a high pressure environment. I miss riding there and the people were so nice to me. It's been years since I've been back there (been gone almost 15 years now) but I enjoyed my time there and if it's anything like it used to be it's a fantastic place. They treated the horses with respect and every rider with dignity. All are well cared for, stalls are clean and they do their best to do a good job with them. I understand they changed management not long ago, and only hope it's still as good of a place as it used to be. Best thing was Kathy was a sweetheart and gave me alot of opportunities to groom for her and get a great horse education . Thanks ! They gave me a great introduction to the horse world !
Really wanted to like this place since I had heard good things about this stable. My daughter took two lessons there and both times they gave her a horse that was difficult to control. They knew that the horse was a hard one to control ahead of time and they still gave her these horses. They apologized during the class but that doesn't help. Not only is it a safety issues to be giving a new rider a difficult to control horse but at $37 a pop its aggravating. After the first lesson, I was willing to give them another try but after the second one, I got upset. The instructor knew it was a mistake but still left her on the bad horses. Too frustrating!! I wanted to sign up for their class packages since it is a good discount but way too risky to do if they can't match the horse to the rider.
Fitzjoy seems a little based on the thickness of your wallet. I took a lesson there, instruction was great, but the person who cleaned the stalls and tacked the horses just gave me the up/down look and put me on this 30 yr old mare that was perfect without even asking me if i rode before or anything! and this was after 6 years of riding, i WANTED more of a challenge! but that was the only thing that bothered me. i think the person who actually instructs you and sees your development/skills with horses should assign you a horse! they know a lot more about riding them the person who doesnt even see you ride!
