Ya know those food shows that travel the country and discover the little dives that are big on flavor, quality and service? Wishing Well is one of those.
Somebody call Guy Fieri.
The authentic Chef (yes, Misti has papers if that matters) delivers large taste and even some unexpected big city flare to country dishes like pot roast. Forget soggy meat served over fall apart Wonder bread. This is perfectly prepared top grade meat with inhouse gravy served over real mashed potatoes. It would be what one might expect if they stayed in a $300/night Portland Oregon hotel and ordered the room service dinner special after hours, and knew the chef by name. Yes, itâs THAT good: in little Odell, Illinois.
I imagine most of the locals in Odell still don't know what hit 'em. Maybe when a couple of Food Network production trucks roll into town this summer it might occur to them.
There's a story behind all good kitchens and this is one of those "local girl makes good" themes. So, make sure to read the back story on the menu.
And this is no one trick pony. The bowl of chili, the coffee and the pie were all unexpected treats.
I bet everything there is full of flavor. Try anything and I'm sure that if you have a tongue, you'll be pleased. Lick the front door: probably the best door you've ever licked!
I haven't tried breakfast yet. That's next week.
