My husband was born in New Orleans and we were both raised in southern Louisiana. Heaven on Seven in Naperville was a HUGE disappointment! Everything was awful. The fried oysters tasted like fried chicken - probably because of oil shared between seafood and poultry. The gumbo slightly resembled the chicken/sausage gumbo of northern Louisiana but the roux was too thick and a muddy brown instead of golden. This muddy, unseasoned roux showed up again in my mushroom/chicken etouffee (surprisingly no seafood etouffee was on the menu). The vegetables (shallots, bell peppers...) were chopped and placed cold on top of the etouffee - no blended flavors, no flavor at all. The same muddy brown color appeared as a constant on the diner's plates around us, this obviously was not an isolated bad roux, this was the fare of Heaven on Seven. My husband's crab cakes were slightly warm, crab-less, oddly identical, flattened patties of breadcrumb. The sauce served with them seemed to be coleslaw dressing. My son's fried oysters came with coleslaw and yes the taste was identical. The only similarities to the food of Louisiana and the food served at Heaven on Seven were the names on the menu. The worst part, people with no actual Louisiana dining experience might be hoodwinked into believing this is authentic cajun/creole cooking. Infinitely better fried oysters could be eaten at any gas station in Louisiana. Unfortunately for Heaven on Seven, a Rodrique on the wall and ten bottles of hot sauce on the table doesn't make you a cajun restaurant!
I was born in Louisiana and raised in nearby Texas. This resteraunt was NOT authentic cajun food. It was terrible. The crawfish etoufee(ay-tu-fe) had 2 crawfish and was not an authentic etoufee. If you want good cajun food try Pappadeux.
Spicy authentic cajun food in Illinois?! It's true! This is the suburb sister restaurant to the Heaven on Seven in Chicago. Call ahead for reservations, as you will not get a seat on Friday or Saturday Night. Get a Hurricane drink, it tastes like Burbon Street in St. Louis if you've ever been there. All the appetizers are good, and say YES when they ask you if you want a corn muffin on the side, they show up warm and steamy. Dinners are great, I am a fan of the crab cakes. Opt for desert, when I was there they had a blueberry fritter that was amaizing.

You must own the place.
LOL!!! Good Cajun food is hard to come by in IL .. I'm also from Atlanta where there are true Louisianian cooking to be had! Will not darken their doors for sure.
