nick is classy and their salads and shrimp are the best
Visited Nicks for a birthday party getaway on a weekend evening. Service and the knowledge of our waiter was wonderful. Very good description of the specials. All eight people in the party was wonderfully satisfied with their dishes of fish and bone-in dry aged steaks. Lobster bisque exquisite. As an added bonus, we were given gift certificates to use as a later date celebrating 30 years of business. Food pricey but worth it for a night out without the kids. Will return in the near future.
I would never eat here again: I very rarely complain about the food or the service at restaurants, and am usually easy to please. I've also never written a review like this. But, after seeing Nick's appear on Yahoo's "Best Seafood" list, I had to say something. I visited Chicago for a girls weekend during March, and EVERYONE recommended Nick's. I can't for the life of me figure out why. Our server was a sweet lady, but highly incompetent, the lobster bisque that everyone raves about tasted more like cold lobster gravy, our appletinis tasted like butterscotch, our champagne-tinis were brought to us without the champagne, and even though I could barely bite through the rock hard garlic bread that we had to ask to be brought to our table at least five times, I could still detect the taste of smelly fish. The only positive thing about my experience at Nick's Fishmarket was when the very kind and apologetic manager agreed to cancel the rest of our order and take everything off the bill. This is the ONLY time I have ever been anywhere that I have had to leave mid-meal and without paying. Oh, and one more nice thing about Nick's is that it's right across the street from the Italian Village, which is great!
