This is IT!!!: If you like polish sausage, or hot dogs, Jim's is the place to eat. Excellent food, at a very cheap price. And the taste is fantastic!!!
The ORIGINAL Maxwell Street Polish: Jim's Original was located for years on the corner of Hausted and Maxwell -- known as Jew town or the garmet district. The original location is in the movie "the Blues Brothers" just prior to soul food cafe scene with Arthea Franklin.
Maxwell Street as known for years is gone -- now a bunch of condos for the University area. But Jim's Original survives only a block away on O'Brien (next to freeway entrance).
Hot Dog shouldn't be in their name. They are known for Polish Sausages with lots of mustard and grilled onions -- and sport peppers if you wish (also serve burgers and pork chops, wash it down with a Wildwood soda). It's a heart attack on a bun, but I've driven 50 miles out of my way to have one. I'm not alone -- I've witnessed double and triple parked cars at 2 am on a week night for this place.
Next door is Express Grill. Both Jim's & Express are similar and worth getting. Order 2 or 3 polishes. Maybe another. Bring me a couple too!!!
Note: No place to sit down, some beggers and street "vendors" -- I've never had a problem, but lock your car & watch your pockets.
