| About: | For authentic Mexican food in a lively atmosphere, try this Clark Street spot. On weekends, Frontera is always packed, but people do not seem to mind the wait. If you are lucky, you can grab a small table at the bar section and start on drinks and appetizers before you are seated. Basic margaritas are quite pricey, but you can try fancier varieties for a few bucks more. The Queso Fundido is good eatinga spicy cheese and onion dish wrapped in hot tortillas. |

I first went to Frontera while a med student at Rush in Chicago, as a treat from one of my professors at the end of a rotation. I now live in California, where there is a Mexican restaurant every 10 feet or so on most streets. I can say that I have found nothing in California which even comes close to Frontera in freshness, quality or overall dining experience. I was recently back home for a visit, and made the journey from the Palmer House to Frontera for lunch. Unbelievably, it seems to have gotten even better than I remember. Despite being burned out on Mexican living here in CA, no trip to Chicago will ever end without a trip to Frontera. I need a reminder occasionally of the potential that Mexican food has, before returning to the boring stuff that they feed you here.

Hello, I was finally able able to use my wife's birthday as an excuse to dine at Topolobampo, although we really wanted to eat at Frontera. We are big fans of Rick's show. We were really looking forward to the experience. Unfortunetly, we arrved at 7 pm in an attempt to eat at Frontera , but they told us that they were not able to take any more customers. we still had reservations, so we were still excited , but were let down again. The food looked great!!!! but the plates was way below Mexican standards of taste. We ate 5 different plates( including the appetizers and the dessert, and only 1 was satisfactory. The food was bland, service was a joke ( the bartenders were fighting) the whole staff needs a shot of tequila to give them the personality of at least a tortilla. The decor does not represent Mexico, the few art pieces are outdated and can be seen in any small taco stand in a Mexican restaurant. The worst insult was listeining to "salsa" music all night blaring loudly trying to fool everyone in beleiving they are having a great time. Salsa is Puerto Rican music, not "Mexican Music". Rick we still think you represent Mexico on your show spendidly, too bad it is nothing but a show of words and empty sighs of you enjoying your own bland expensive food. Comon Rick get it together!!!!!!! Viva Mexico, no.... really viva Mexico if you really do love it as you say you do. Will you even read this Rick?
I have been going to Frontera since day one. Even after I moved back to Rockford, Frontera is still the restaurant that I visit when I am in Chicago. The food is wonderful and the service is comparable.
