I love this area of Chicago and I really enjoyed my stay at the Ambassador East. My husband and I stayed in one of the "cheap" rooms which had what was probably the worst view of any of the rooms there. The small bathroom was a little grungy looking due to layers of paint on the door frame, loose door knob, dirty looking grout, etc. Our room was a little on the small side and the carpet had a few stains but the bed was very comfortable. The service was GREAT! The Pump Room was out of our league, but we ate dinner there anyway and the experience very nice. Admittedly, we were country folk in the big city, but we were never made to feel that way. We were welcomed and attended to just as if we were big-timers. I can't praise the staff enough - both at the Pump Room and the hotel. They were wonderful. Great place to stay and a great city to visit. I'm ready to go back.
We stayed at the Amassador East for a romantic weekend! I have to say we loved it. The staff was amazing and very friendly. Our room was very large and comfortable. The only thing I would change is the amount of starch used on the sheets. The location of the hotel is perfect, it is within walking distance of so much. We found great food, great shopping, and good pubs all within a few blocks of the hotel. I would highly recommend the Ambassador East to anyone, and I we do plan to return.
$88 dollars a night on Orbitz seemed too good to be true and I was worried I took one of those internet deals too soon without doing enough research. The Ambassador East though was a great hotel. The neighborhood it's located in is beautiful. The hotel rooms themselves are really clean and spacious.
Great things:
- The staff is amazingly helpful. They suggested where to get deep dish pizza (right around the corner), where to walk around (the Magnificent Mile, not really worth it for New Yorkers), and offered to help us get tickets for an improv show (we didn't go though).
- Chicago magazines are everywhere for travellers without plans (like me!).
- It's ridiculously close to Division and Rush for drinking and Vienna dogs at 2am.
- The beds are damn comfortable.
- Close to the red line subway (about 4-5 blocks)
- Gold Coast is beautiul neighboorhood. Brownstone buildings and trees everywhere
- Gave me a late check out.
The Buts...
- The showerhead squeeled.
- The doors slammed ridicuously loud. 4am, 7am, 6pm, anytime you're in your room, you'll hear your next door neighbor leave.
- The walls seem to be thin, either that or the woman having a gathering next door had an extremely loud voice.
- The maids are enthusiatic about cleaning your room. Get the Do Not Disturb up at all costs.
Do it again? - Definitely. Great people, good location for fun. As long as the price is right, a great experience.
