I visited this resturant as a gather with a vendor and my staff. I was very surprise by the area and where we were at. This is highly attire place. I knew as we walked in this would a very formal place to eat. However, while ordering out waiting staff was very pleasent, however took a while to get drinks back on time. Also, when a menu was placed on the table to review and place our order, pricing seem to be very highly, coming from Texas. However, I order a Ribeye steak medium and it came to be more medium rare. It did have a good flavor on the first tasting. As I proceeded to eat my steak, I encounter it to have a highly amount of fat on it. To say the most it was half fat and half meat.
When the wait staff came around, he asked how our steak was, I told him good taste overall, but too much fat. His comment back was "We'll most ribeyes have allot of fat in them." I was somewhat surprise to his response and his reaction to this question. I being from Texas and knowing what steaks look like and should be served. I am giving this establishment a poor comment. Being the cost of the highly fatty steak that I ate, it was not worth the price. As far as to my staff and vendors eating, the vendor was very unsatisfied with his steak as it did not have a very good flavor and it also was not to his likeing as it had been highly recommended by other Chicago partons. Also, one staff ordered a T-Bone steak that was cooked medium rare as to his liking, however, you can tell that they use a double boiler to prepare the steaks. He was highly upset, being that all the seasons or rub and the top part of the stek tasted burn. As most will say in Texas, once you put sauce on a steak, might as well not eat it. I hope this helps your decicison as to go eat there, however, it might be as good as other have recommended it. Best Wishs.
I was recommended to go to Gibson's as the best place for steak from some Chicago locals. I was told the food and atmosphere would be great....
When my girlfriend and I, got there I was told it would be an hour wait, but the bar and patio were first come first serve, so we sat outside as we still wanted to sight see later, so we probably missed out on the true Gibson's experience...
Gibson's is in the high class area of town known as "The Gold Coast" and most of the people entering in and out were dressed up in suits and nice attire, we on the other hand were way under dressed as we were just coming back from a Cubs game, but were welcomed in anyways...
The server was very attentive to our needs and checked on us frequently. My girlfriend ordered the small filet mignon cooked medium and I ordered the WR Chicago Cut steak with a side of mash potatoes. Her filet was way under cooked and my steak and potatoes were nothing to brag about....
I would not recommend this restaurant as a must eat while in Chicago. The food was just not worth the $120 bill.
I like this place and tyr to make it about once a month. I am getting hungry right now for one of those bad boys but bring the saltine packets because the wait can be awhile sometimes.
