Best steak I have ever had, bar none. Morton's, Ruth's Chris, and various other New York and Chicago steakhouses do not compare. I know, I've tried. It's pricey, but worth it. If you are worried about the money, bring a date and get the porterhouse. Then you get a NY strip and she gets a filet mignon for just a few bucks more than the NY strip by itself.
The stone crab claws are also good, but very peculiar for a New Englander to adjust to. For one thing, they are served ice cold. And with mustard. Very good, but I think I would still prefer a Maine lobster or Alaskan king crab legs. I'm not alone in this--even our waiter said he prefers the Joe's Alaskan king crab legs.
While I can't say anything about Joe's, I am absolutely amazed at some of the comments here regarding The Chop House. My two experiences at The Chop House have been thoroughly dissapointing, and I believe I am vindicated in my opinion based on the fact that The Chop House also has fallen out of the Top 10 Great Steak Houses in the United States as determined by the Cattle Raisers Association Ranking. The food was just mediocre and the service was horrible. I could even accept rude waiters like at Peter Lugar's in Brooklyn, N.Y. if the food matched Lugar's. Pete Miller's in Evanston is my personal favorite in Chicagoland.
This place pals in comparison to the Chop House, Nice place but the food is not even close. Were talking steak houses not seafood.

The Chop House is good but to say Joe's doesn't compare is ridiculous. Joe's not only compares, it is better. I've sampled the surf and turf at almost every steak house in downtown Chicago and I never had an experience better than Joe's. You won't be disappointed at the Chop House but Joe's is truly the ultimate steak house experience.
