this place is the best they have spicey sausage for the pan pizza something lou's doesn't. 5 generation of my family have been in that restaurant at once, the service has always been the best. the owner has always walked by and greeted me on every occassion i have dined there. the only downside to the restaurant is its on the north outskirts of chicago and hard to access via highway if ur coming from the suburbs
What a waste of time and money! Appetizer was cold, and after waiting approximately one hour, they gave us the wrong pizza!! They only applied a minuscule discount, after we had to ask for it from the manager. Stay away from this restaurant - bad service and horrible management!
It's my understanding that Gullivers has a new owner. They've made some changes. These "changes" are NOT for the better. One example is the Chicken Vesuvio. They are now using "boneless chicken breasts" instead of the half-chicken they used to use. The results are quite disappointing. The "chicken breasts" are tough ,dry, and tasteless compared to the chicken they used to use. One can only imagine the decline in quality of other menu items because of these "changes". I've been a frequent customer for quite awhile and these new changes may result in my taking my business elsewhere!
I was taken to Gullivers a couple of years ago as a birthday dinner. The food was great, the drinks were okay (of course there is nothing like your own), and the atmosphere was very laid back...almost romantic even. Up to date, it has changed tremendously. It doens't house the same effect of not being the typical pizza joint. It's geared more for sports, bigger crowds and drinking. I understand the need for change, as it has changed ownership, but I do think at least one-two days out of the week, it should allow for that "romantic" occasion.
I have been going to Gulliver's for thirty years, and I have loved going there. It changed owners last year and I am very upset to say, I won't return. Half of the beautiful antique lighting fixtures have been sold, leaving the decor sparse and sad. For some reason seating in dining room is being ignored, instead there is a big push to seat guests in the bar room. That room is the worst room in the house, which includes a giant TV. Also a manager lectured a staff member about the table arrangement/placement right in front of us while we ate. The pizza is still good, but the restaurant isn't what it used to be.
A Rogers Park institution for nearly fifty years. Go for the deep dish pizza, but consider salad, Italian and Mexican dishes. The atmosphere is worth the trip, as well. There is an outdoor enclosed patio and the place is loaded with antique fixtures. A great place to sit in the summer with friends. There are two parking lots, one of which is just east of the restaurant. The north parking lot fills up. Wait staff varies, so consider ordering a few beers, margaritas, and appetizers.
We love this place. The staff are great, the pizza is fabulous. We like to eat there at least once a week. Props!, To Gullivers!!1
Delicious pizza!: Our whole family celebrated Father's Day today at Gulliver's!
We ordered thin, stuffed and pan pizzas, all which were great... but the thin crust rules if you like cracker thin crust. All toppings wre fresh and delicious. The soft drinks though were awful. Order your drinks out of a pop can rather than the fountain. The ambience is perfect and the outdoor cafe is lovely. Definantly worth an hour's drive on precious over priced gas!
Whatever you want, they got: I've eaten here many times. The food is top notch. I live in their delivery area and the pizza is exceptional, It's up there with other top line Chicago Deep dish Pizzas like Giordano's and Lou Malnati's. The crust is more like Lou's and the quality is great. Not the lowest price pizza, but then I find you get what you pay for with pizzas.
The restaurant is an experience unto itself. The tacky, ecclectic collection of antiques and relics fills any time you might have not eating the great food. I can recommend the steaks. I had mine Garlic Parmesan crusted and couldn't believe how good it was. I'm a steak purist but this was a tasty way to serve it. Also had the firey shrimp something or other, can't remember the name. It was great. I highly recommend this place for any dining experience you are looking for.
The non-pizza is good too: I must have driven past this place a few dozen times before giving it a try. The sign outside advertises Italian and Mexican dining, but there's no doubt about it: this is an Italian dining experience. The only Mexican food you'll find here is tacos, a burrito, and enchiladas. But that's okay because their obvious focus (Italian) is what they do very well. From the moment we sat down, this was no ordinary place. The air is so thick with chandeliers, we couldn't see the ceiling. Busts, paintings, mirrors, etc, cover the walls, leaving mere inches of open wall space. It somehow manages to remain classy though, maintaining a homey feeling, not kitschy. There are more than enough options to choose from. We settled on NOT pizza... but rather, the 1/2-pound burgers. The prices seem high at first glance, but considering the incredible amount of food you get, it's well worth it. The cons? Our waiter never came back after we were served our food. We needed extra condiments, extra napkins, and refills, but we never saw our waiter again until he returned with the check. The parking lot across the street only holds about 8 cars, and it was full when we arrived. We had to try to find street parking, no easy task in the area.
We love Gulliver's: I don't know what it is about this pizza, but it's my favorite deep dish in all of Chicago
The best pan pizza in Chicago: I've tried them all and this one tops the list. The atmosphere is quirky and interesting and the service is outstanding!! More parking would help!!
I'm in LOVE!!!!: Their Italian food is AMAZING.....
Best Pizza found in Chicago!: The atmosphere almost outdos the food at this wonderful restaurant. The Famous pan pizza is the best you can find anywhere. If you're a fan of sausage pizza dont let this one pass by you!
Very Nice Place: I liked their Deep Dish Pizza. and their Service..
Great Pizza: Saw a sign advertising Gullivers Pizza as the best pizza in Chicago back in 1990. Decided to visit and had one of the deep dish pizzas.
The medium size feeds a family of three...plenty of sauce, the right amount of cheese, garlic, oregano, bay leave, thyme and, of course, the meat choice. This is the kind of pizza you best eat with a knife and fork....the crust and pan hold the sauce and condiments in such a manner that hand eating just won't do.
Over the years the restaurant staff has changed but the pizza has stayed consistent and savory. Try it, you'll love it.
Always Have, Always Will..: Loved this place.
Best Deep Dish pizza around, and the ambiance is just incredible. You are surrounded by old stained glass windows and art from area homes. There is just no place like this anywhere. You really have to experience it yourself. And when the weathers nice, be sure to try sitting outside. Everytime we get the family together in the Chicago area, we make sure to go by Gullivers. Our get togethers wouldn't be the same without it.
Top-Notch Pizza: Not only is the pizza excellent, but the atmosphere is cool and classy!
Great for dates and families too!: A longtime fixture at the edge of the city, this establishment's menu offers innumerable choices across a broad spectrum of tastes.
Their collections of lighting, stained-glass and other "visuals" provide pleasant distraction while awaiting one's order.
Their full-service bar is often packed with sports enthusiasts.
Public transportation is within yards of their entrance and recommended, since both of their parking lots are often full.
Although there is spacious seating available normally, reservations would be recommended during busy hours.
Best Deep Dish EVER!: I've been going to Gullivers since I had teeth. They have the best deep dish pizza (I recommend green pepper or the sausage done in the Chicago style sheet) that I've ever had, and I've lived in Chicago my whole life and had it all. They also have fabulous Minestrone Soup served in an earthenware crock. The ambiance and decor has been well known throughout Chicago. There are thousands of antiques, tiffany lamps, and other treasures to admire while you wait for your pizza. In the last few years they expanded and opened a lovey outdoor eating area that is also festively decorated. Parking can be a bit tricky, but it's worth the parallel parking. Come try it once and I guarantee you'll agree that it's the best around.
restaurant: I loved the food.
Gulliver's Restaurant Chicago: I've eaten at Gulliver's many times with my brother (native Chicago-an) The menu has wonderful variety. The service is always prompt. The interior is filled with beautiful chandalier/tiffany style lights with a story behind each one. I highly recommend it for large groups and families. Love It !
