i can't wait to come back. the lunch special menu has pretty much all the classic dishes covered and at the right price too. the food was fresh and very tasty- good thing the serving size was plenty! i had pancit and adobo with steamed white rice. the halo halo hit the spot but somewhat pricey. i would like to tryout the rest of the menu. i would recommend this place. the food was slow to arrive but worth the wait. so, order ahead for lunch or party of 4+
Home cookin' here we come! Well, almost home cookin' that is. I live about 2 hours away and was in town for leisure, and wanted to check out a filipino restaurant because I was super craving it. This place was the closest to where our hotel was, about 15-20 minutes away, so off we were. I checked out the previous reviews about this place just to get an idea, and some of it was true. It is on a busy street, but there's parking right in front of the building. The place was totally empty except for 1 table, but it's not super huge, that didn't bother me. It was kinda hawaiin themed, but the Phillippines is an island, so whatev. The lady who took our order was filipina, and friendly. We ordered to go since we knew before hand that supposively it took awhile to get your food. They said only 15 minutes, so we walked down the street to a pub to have a beer. Ordered dinaguan, kare-kare, and lumpia shanghai. Everything was pretty tasty except the kare kare. They gave bagaon (or however you spell it), and that wasn't that great of flavor. Plus the meat was very sparse. They didn't give us rice, and said it normally didn't come with, but we went back in to ask about it, and they gave it to us the "one" time. How can you give filipino dishes w/no rice??? Who cares if it's to go! The dishes were under $10 which worked for me, but I believe the other things were a little pricier. The dinaguan def. didn't compare to homemade, but I for sure ate ALL of it. I would recommend this place, and probably would go back for seconds!
Wen went a long ways out of our way to try this place. Had high hopes. Having ate at Little Quiapo the previous day this was a big letdown. Lets start with the highs. The food was good at least. Not great, but at least good. However nothing you can't get at any other filipino place in the area. Now the bad. The atmosphere was more like Hawaii, not a good feel for the country really. It was also very empty and lonely. No other customers where there and it was somewhat quiet and just had some music playing in the background which wasn't bad but with nobody there it felt kind of scary. The waitress didnt speak pinoy or english really, i think she and the other girl were mexican. Not really authentic, and also they dodnt understand what i said a few times and couldnt even give me directions to another place i needed to go. The price was also higher than Little Quiapo and LQ was a full buffet. This place was order off the menui which means only 1 main course plus rice. We only got 1 meal and water (no soft drink) and it was around $2 higher than full buffet with drinks and other dessert. The people also did not seem very friendly. They didnt talk or smile. Wasn't quite being rude but very close. We definitely were not made to feel welcome or wanted there. Very cold experience. We did get a free second helping of white rice so that was another plus, but overall i cannot recommend this to anyone for any reason. We will continue to look for a better filipino place but this isn't it. Thumbs down for me, i don't think they really care about losing customers though because there werent any others around. One other note, if you do go be prepared to wait a long time. The food is prepared fresh which is a good thing as it was good, but took longer than anywhere else i have been. Bring a book or phone game or something because you will be sitting there for quite awhile, i think we waited over 30 minutes for one course meal with white rice. Maybe longer than that. Try it only if you must.
