Octane is one of the best kept secrets in downtown Rockford. The crowd is always mixed and the food selections are very healthy with a twist and always fresh. Years ago I was told that the herbs and the meats where locally grown. A native born Rockfordian now living downstate I go to this restuarant when I want to get re-connected with the local arts scene(the real Rockford).

The staff, from top to bottom are very friendly and professional and I like that. Progressive without pricey pretentiousness is the key I think. They have WI-FI and Octane has worked hard over the years to be consistent in what they are doing with their menu. The chef, Muy Bueno! Occasionally they have entertainment as well and you can't beat the location. I suggest you try it during the warm months and sit out on the sidewalk to people watch, write a poem, or just relax and catch a brew and a breeze.

A great downtown value: I initially tried Octane more for price than anything else - I was going to a Saturday show downtown at the Coronado and wanted somewhere to have dinner that didn't cost $30+ a plate, and out of the restaurants I researched through on the net, Octane was the only somewhat classy looking place that fit the bill.
Octane's ambiance is rather nice - I could almost call it "cozy." The restaurant is kept fairly dark, and they have candles flickering away on top of the leather-clad tables.
The food was a little unusual but still tastey - for example my date and I were a little surprised to find that the ravioli she had ordered was in a sauce that was... green.
On a side note, seating is pretty limited, so if you do plan to go for dinner, consider reservations a must.

Great place to visit with friends: I love Octane. The food is delicious, and the espresso drinks are the best. You can't get a better cappuccino in town! The martini's are world class.
