Good food, reasonable prices, beautiful atmosphere, nice people- I will be visiting this restaurant again.
Dont go critizin' the one and only IP. you think you know what real asian food is....puh-lease...the imperial palace is one of the greatest restaurants in the area ! Everything is made fresh. GO IMPERIAL PALACE, i got chur back homesss skilletsss...try the steak...its the best...pricey..but the best.
After reviewing the Yahoo reviews, I can truly say they mean almost nothing. We were staying in Freeport with relatives and decided to order out. The Imperial Palace was good with the order - service was god, they were quick and the prices are good. But the food was at best mediocre.
Seczhuan chicken was the best, but only palatable. Lots of celery and canned water chestnuts with a boring sauce. I think I saw a red pepper flake, but couldn't taste anything of any spice value at all. I think there was more cornstarch than spice - this was consistent with all the dishes.
The crab Rangoon was ugghh. If you want these here's how to make them. Take a bunch of cream cheese and throw in just a bit of fake crab (the pressed pollack stuff). Ignore any spices whatsoever. Wrap a tablespon of the cream cheese and fake crab mix in a store bought wonton and deep fry until brown and crispy - serve. By the way - these were pretty soft an chewy by the time we got home -something that should not happen if you eat in.
I had the sesame beef as per the other Yahoo recommendation. Basically, strips of beef deep fried in a breading with some sesame seeds. A light-bodied sauce with bland flavor accompanied it. There was a lot of it for a small price, but I do not recommend at any price.
Other people has the sweet and sour. The color in the red sauce was much greater than any flavor the sauce or the deep fried breaded chicken had.
Overall, I would not eat here again. The fare could use so much more flavor and freshness and innovation. But it still may be better than any chinese restaurant within 100 miles. Remind me not to eat chinese food in Northern Illinois.
