New management must have taken over since the last review. Avoid this place at all cost unless you enjoy getting ripped off. the prices were so high, my fiance and I decided to split a meal and get the soup for the $1.50 extra. Our waitress said she'd have to charge us the full price for the soup since we were splitting. So we told her to forget the soup. Well, we were both bamboozeled because when we got our bill, there was a $5.00 split fee on a $8.50 hot beef sandwich. SPlit fee!?!?!?!!! We didn't even get an extra plate brought to the table. So what did we get for the extra $5.00 we paid - absolutely nothing. What a sham and totally disgraceful trying to get an extra dollar out of tourists. At least in downtown Chicago when you pay a $2 split fee, they bring you two plates with the meals nicely platted and a little extra side dishes for both of you. And their turkey club was $12 - seriously???????
What a great place!: This is a great old fashioned small town style cafe with a dessert case full of pies and pastries and there's even a counter in the back where you can sit and eat while watching the food being prepared . Our waitress Ruth was a wonderful woman, oh, and a good waitress too. One person in our party is "difficult" and hard to satisfy but she handled him wonderfully well and kept him smiling. Several in our party ordered breakfast which seems to be their specialty and is served all day. We would recommend the breakfasts if you are very hungry. All the food was fresh and well prepared. I ordered a Philly Steak and though it was made with a "steak-um" tasted very good. Everyone in our group was very happy with their meals (which is really saying something!) and the cafe had a very relaxing atmosphere. The prices were perhaps a bit much for what you get but compared to the other restaurants in the area was still a very good value. Most items were in the $5-$8 range The menu offered a good variety of items , sandwiches, breakfasts, dinners and as mentioned before, a dessert case! This restaurant is rather small but has very high ceilings and does not feel cramped at all. Nice decor and very clean overall. We will probably eat here every time we are in town!
