I believe Jim's has some of the best ribs I have ever had, and I have been to a lot of rib places from all over. Sure sometimes they overcook them, but every restaraunt falters at times. I mean this isn't a ritzy five star restaurant. And if after the first couple of bites you find that it is a little overcooked, they are always nice enough to make you a new batch. I would not recommend dining in if you want that great restaurant experience because it is more like a greasy spoon. And the best advice that I can give is: IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME TRY THE SPARE RIBS.
I just recently moved up here. I have no clue why Quad City people think that place is the best! I was born and raised in St. Louis and went to school in Texas.
We went there doing lunch time and the menu was very small. The prices were on average 13-15 a meal. We decided to have a sandwich instead of Ribs. The sandwich was 5.60 without a side. Sides are 2.50 each for a small. You can get a Sandwich, drink, and side for 9.50. We got our meal and the bun was cooked in the microwave. Fries were recooked in the microwave i.e. soggy. The sauce wasn't good and tasted and looked like Arby's sauce. Very runny. The pork sandwich was good but the sauce was at the bottom. The service was really poor. Only one waitress for the whole place! I mean if your going to spend 10-15 dollars on a meal you have to have better service. The place had diner seats. Overall if you are going to BBQ in the Quad cities Famous Daves is good and is just like Bandana's BBQ only slightly worse. Texas Road House is great for your money and stomach. Sneaky Petes has a great atmosphere. Its kind of neat to order from a wiskey menu.
I didn't mean to write a harsh review but we were really upset when we went there. Way over price, rated, and fair tasting.
Steve.
I'd give it four stars because the chicken isn't that good, but this place is about good smoked ribs with the best sauce. After living in Texas, Georgia, and several trips through New Orleans, KC, and Memphis. I still say their ribs are only a B, B+, but it doesn't matter because you will not find a better hot sauce, that provides fantastic flavor with a balanced amount of heat. The sides are on the decent to average side, but like I said a BBQ joint needs to one thing well and that is ribs, and that is what this place does.

I don't believe that anyone has said that the restaurant is the best. I believe when people say that jim's is great, they are talking about the spare ribs. The first mistake you made was not trying the ribs. If you have never tried the ribs then you NEED to go back and try them. Yeah the rest of the food is so-so, but the ribs are top notch. I have never actually eaten inside of the restaurant and it is more of a carry out type of restaurant. The environment is like a greasy spoon, so of course your not going to get the best service. If you didn't like the service then don't tip as much, but don't knock the food because of bad service. Next time get it (the ribs) to go.
