User Rating: 4 out of 5 starschicken size great,freshly battered and served hot.the batter lacked any spice or herbs at all with golden smooth texture.edges were overbattered that ended up to be to hard to eat.the fries were mediocker at best.the cole slaw is about the best ive ever had,it had prominent crispiness that screamed FRESH.the fried mushrooms were a bit overbattered and very small,leaving a bed of "batter escapees"underneath.the slice of buttered bread under the fried chicken was a treat and the pickles went well with meal.the service was adequite.they should offer mashed potato option and corn side dishes to begin with.all n all it was worth the 25 mile trip to experience this place.pricing was fare and quality very good[still,i believe they should enhance batter with spice and herbs].i give 3.5 stars.

Ripp's has undoubtedly the best fried chicken around. Not only do I love their food, but I love the experience as well. I actually look forward to the long lines and being able to socialize and have a cheap beer or two. Definitely one of Illinois' hidden treasures.

Ripp's Rules!!!: I LOVE Ripp's, but unfortunately don't get to indulge my craving for their yummy food too often since my husband went on a health kick several years ago. As much as I love Ripp's food, I refuse to wait in the long line they generally have. I do enjoy stopping when the line isn't out the door or the occasional carry out. They don't have an extensive menu, but everything they serve is fabulous!! The chicken & the catfish are fantastic as are the fried mushrooms and the crispies (batter droppings from the chicken - need I say more) are to die for!!!
