Nice little out of the way family owned place. One of central IL's best kept secrets. Want to get out of the city for a little meal break? It's close enough, take War past the new "Mall" and into Kickapoo, just in town on the right, or exit Kickapoo off 74 to the stop sign & take a right, can't miss it. I recently spent 16 months deployed overseas, Ludy's was on my to 10 places to visit if I made it back. Nuff said.
Ludy's has a good burger but Gillles Tap right next door across from the softball diamonds has an even better burger then Ludy's!!! Gilles Tap is not so easy on the eyes, its an older run down extension to the Gilles family house but its worth braving the front door as I have been eating there for 16 years! Norma was the smiling face that had been turing out the best burgers in the mid west for five or more decades until she just recently passed a few years ago. You can still see pitcures of Norma handing up all over the bar along with nice fish mountings of crappies and bluegill. Like I said, it's not the nicest looking place in town but has the best burgers, chili, and grilled ham sandwiches in Illinois! That's bold because I have eaten all over Chicago!
