totally worth the drive. i love their angel hair pasta with shrimp, sausage and broccoli.....
guys, save room for desert, the tiramisu was amazing.....
First let me start by saying that I think misterkozy should head back to Chicago and take his overly refined taste with him. Verucchi's is a piller in the Illinois Valley. When you want italian food this is one of the best places around. When you go in it feels like an italian resturaunt should. (Family owned with real people and not some chain like Olive Garden etc.) The food is excellent and one of the few resturaunts with a good choices for vegeterians. I strongly suggest the eggplant parmesan The staff is very friendly and attentive. This is a great place for a family dinner, family gathering or a place to go on a date.
Gee, I must be the only person in the Illinois Valley who was underwhelmed with Verucchis. Maybe it's because I moved to the area about thirty years ago from Chicago and got spoiled with the much better, imo,.Italian dishes, and flavors, available up there. Examples -- the couple times I dined at Verucchi's in the past, one time I had filet mignon...it was tender but almost tasted boiled. Had lobster one time...it was the only time I've had chewy lobster. My recollection of something Italian I had there once was that it didn't have much sauce on it, and the flavor was on the somewhat bland side compared to others I've had elsewhere, including my wife's homemade, and she's French! I'm not picking on Verucchis because I can't seem to find a restaurant I like so far anywhere in this area. Can't find a decent supper club type place with the combination of atmosphere and good menu selection, or food flavor that I like. People around here are ga-ga over chicken it seems, and the greasier the better, but I'm a steak and rib guy. Chicken is just, well...just chicken. My recommendation would be, then, to try Verruchi's and just decide for yourself.
