Over the past two or three weeks I have been looking at used cars on line and wanted to get a nice car that was a few years old (to keep the price down) with very low mileage. I had found a car at Douglass that was six years old and only 54,000 miles on it. My wife and I were excited about this car, but the only catch was that it was 122 miles away from my home. I told Danny, the salesman, that I had sold cars at one time in the past and I wanted him to walk around the car and check for paintwork (feeling the seams for rough paint). I knew what to look for!
I also asked him to drive the car so that I wouldnât be wasting my time on this near 2 ½ hour drive. I had the dealership run the financing over the phone and had an interest rate I was pleased with in advance so there wouldnât be any thing holding us back from this purchase.
My wife and I drove the 122 miles and within 60 seconds of walking around the car, I could tell that the two front fenders and the hood of the car had been repainted. And when I popped the hood, the engine looked like new⦠This car had been involved in a pretty serious front end collision!
When I drove the car, the alignment and the shimmy in the steering wheel was so bad that I can not believe they were trying to sell it. When I confronted the salesman, he played dumb like he didnât know how to check for front end damage and said that when he drove it, it was just fine. He was very clearly trying to deceive meâKnowing that I was coming from a distance and just hoping that I wouldnât know any better.
In the end, we got a better car, with more options, less money, and less miles from another dealership. It is still very upsetting to me that he would waste that much of my time and gas. I really donât like to be deceived!
I live in Urbana IL, and found a great deal on a 08' Pontiac Grand Prix. I found it on cars.com and it really looked good. I took the 45 min trip to go look at it/buy it. When i got there, the car was in the very back of the lot and very dirty. The sales man seemed very friendly, and helpful. I took the car for a drive, and it was great. The interior was a little dirty, and had some wear and tear. I quickly decided to buy the car. We did the paper work, and all was good. The sales man said we could come pick it the following thursday (5days after i bought it). I called ahead on thursday, to be on the safe side and the paper work wasnt finished. The guy offerd to send a person down to drop it off, but i refused and said it wanst necessary. He than insured me he would have it spotless and absoutly perfect when i arrived. When i got there i asked the guy if it had a full tank of gas, and he said "no, but i gave it to you at a good price". That is wrong. He didnt give me a good price, that was the price on the car. I didnt even try to talk him down. Also, if he would drive someone down there, that would cost more money than a tank of gas. I would figure i spent $15000 at there dealership, it would at least have a $40 tank of gas in it. After that, i procceded to take it home, after i got in it i could quickly see the car wasnt detailed, looks more like someone just wiped it down with a wet wipe. After i got home, i looked the car over and found countless inperfections that were covered by the dirt the first time i looked at it. There are at least 40 rock chips, weird cracks, scratches, scrapes, and places where people tried to sand the paint. The interior has sand all over, the vinyl/fake leather was very discolored, and the carpet is stained. Im very dissapointed about the outcome of this sale, but i must live with it now. I make sure to tell everyone i know not to go here, and i hope this saves you the trouble it has caused me.
I would definetly recommend this place to anyone. There is a great selection and all at value prices. They are a small town business and not pushy or just looking to make a buck. They were very helpful when I mentioned a budget and they stuck right to it. Look up their website. Its nice because they have every car and truck listed so you can have more of an idea what you want to see before you even go. I will continue to do business with them in the future.
