In reading all the negatives reviews on this i have to ask why? We dined here tonight and i could not wait and give this place a great review. I can say that i wanted to avoid this place on the weekend because i know this is a popular place and very busy at night.I ordered a marinated sirlion and had a bowl of there chicken noodle soup and it was delicious. The steak was cooked medium and just how i liked it and it was so good , that i highly reccomend getting it. My Honey got nightly special which included a lobster tail & stuffed butterfly shrimp & a big well decorated salad. Her lobster was excellent and really hit the spot. Our service was great as well and our waitress checked on us quite often and we didn't have to ask for refills which is a plus in my book. For the both of us without dessert we spent a lil over $40.00 and i was happy with that.I normally don't give a lot of 5 stars,But i feel this place deserves it.Bloomington does not have a lot of fine dining places so this would be a place in its own category. I mean this place is more of a fine dining type and it was a good experience. I would reccomend this local steakhouse and i know i would go again.
You can get as good or better food, at same or better prices, in as good or better atmosphere. The building is run-down, management and service is adequate at best. They will take a reservation, but I"ve always had a long wait even though I arrived on time. Management is unresponsive to complaints re: food quality or service. By local law the facility is supposed to be smoke-free, but it appears that they still let people smoke. I'd recommend the Jim's in Peoria FAR ABOVE the Bloomington, IL location. For similar fare of equal or better quality, atmosphere and service in the Bloomington/Normal area, try Lonestar Steakhouse, Ozark House, or Central Station. This place isn't worth stopping for.
I doubt that I will return, and I will advise: A friend recently visited Jims Steakhouse and thought I would enjoy the ambience...which I did. However, the Cosmopolitan was watered down or very weak which I stated to the waitress. She only said, "I am sorry". And then my salmon entree arrived but I had to request a dipping sauce of some kind as the salmon was very fishy. Other tasted it and agreed that it was fishy.
I asked the waitress to advise the manager of these findings, but he never appeared! So much for Jims...we will go elsewhere and advise others as well.
Oh, yes, we all would have liked to enjoyed the piano bar but the cigarrete smoke was too much....They not only lost our dining business but it would have been a nice place to have an afternoon drink or two or just stop in after dining somewhere else.
