This place is highly over rated!: Everyone thinks this restuarant is so great. I was there my first time in 2001 and I hated it. I swore I would never go back. I went with some friends of mine about two weeks ago and I still hate it. The food is nasty.
In response to the person who said they asked for a manager....they never came to the table. Well it just depends on who you are and who you know. If you are a nobody in this town or of lower class then you are treated like you don't belong. The owners also drove out their competition next door...two of them as a matter of fact....first TR's cafe which was excellent and then the one after them....I thinkit was called the sweet olive or something...the owners told them they never should have moved next door to them!
Tony's is slightly over-rated. The dim-light "specialty" is more of a nuisance since you can hardly see. The nuance and atmosphere is lacking in various areas. The service and cleanliness is not always at a respectable standard. Certain dishes are not prepared nearly as well as they should be, and are over-priced. My impression of Tonyâs was a smaller, less posh, local restaurant that put on lipstick to be more appealing so to justify itâs prices and reputation. The wine selection and quality of food only deserves three stars. My recommendation for a nice causal night on the town would be to go to Applebeeâs instead. For a more formal or business environment, a trip to many of the higher quality restaurants in St. Louis would most likely suit your needs better.
I have gone to Tony's most of my life. I am 54. I have recommended Tony's to many clients and friends. They have great food and great atmosphere! You can not go wrong with their steaks and pizza. Always great!
