We were looking for a decent casual restaurant in Jacksonville and tried Muggsy's. Wow is all I can say, the decor is inviting, with nice outside dining. The inside dining was slighlty cramped, but it was Home Coming and a lot of couples were there. The food was very, very good. The menu is a nice variety of reasonable priced sandwiches with a good variety of dinner entree's. The appetizers were great and plentiful. They also have several dinner specials which my wife and I tried. They were very fresh tasting and different. Our daughter goes to Illinois College in Jacksonville, and this is the ONLY place we will eat when we are down to visit her. Ample parking right next store and across the street. I wish I would have taken a picture, but the outside does not do it justice. The beer/cheese soup was one of the best soups I ever had.

At a recent visit, I found the following:

    1) My portobella mushroom ravioli were obviously from a box of frozen ones and were still a little chilly in the center when I got them. The sauce also tasted pre-packaged and was so thick that it slid off the pasta in a massive clump.
    2) The "seasonal vegetable" mixture served on the side was a mix of carrots and green beans that also were clearly of the frozen bagged variety.
    3) My cheese soup was so salty that I couldn't finish it.

The dinner prices are high for this area. Reservations strongly suggested for dinner service.

At another visit, lunch was excellent. I ate an awesome corned beef sandwich with a side of fresh sweet potato chips and it was wonderful.

My advice? Definitely go for lunch, but skip dinner.

We went for dinner an akthough we didn't try the pasta, we did have the beer/cheese soup, which was excellent and the veggies we received were fresh broccoli and cauliflowers. They had several diner specials, two of which we had and they were excellent. It is highly possible they made some adjustments based on your review. I find it a refreshing island in a sea of bad restaurants. Diner reservations were required for us on a Sat night.

Great place to eat....: Have been the several times (early & late) and the food has always been great. Plan on returning there several more times....
