I was so excited to try this place based on the reviews and after looking over their menu. My daughter and her boyfriend took my husband and I there last night for Father's Day. I'll start with the positives. The place was clean (but we only walked to our table a few steps away.) The service was excellent, our hostess very pleasant, the waitress was top notch. She was very personable, checked often enough without being intrusive. The house salad which was served with 3 of our meals were more than expected. Can only comment on the french dressing but it was tasty. Prices reasonable for amount served. Now for the negatives. First thing we noticed was table was so small for 4 at an Italian eatery. Toasted ravioli (half meat/half cheese) had a funny taste. As I only had meat I can only comment on that but I just didn't care for the filling. Now onto the entrees: 9" meat pizza. Took one bite and that was all I ate. Between the sauce not being to my liking and crust isn't made on site. It was clearly a prepackaged crust you could buy in the store yourself. Very disappointing. Plenty of meat however, which I would have eaten if not for the sauce on it. #2) traditional platter: lasagna, ravioli and spaghetti. Lots of food, that's for sure. Hubby said it was OK. #3} Chicken parmesian. Nice chicken breast, not enough sauce on spaghetti (but she didn't like the sauce either}, served with fresh "steamed" veggies (broccoli stems, cauliflower, yellow squash, carrots} which were immediately scrapped off the plate. #4} Lasagna dinner: served in bowl, i've never seen that before. Now on this dish there was way, way too much sauce slopped all over the top (hence the reason it was served in a bowl). But again for this diner it was the sauce that just didn't cut it. Everything looked wonderful, service was great, the taste just wasn't to our liking. Hope this helps future diners like myself who only get treated to a meal out once or twice a year. It was a big disappointment. Sorry Mario's, I really tried to like it.
My wife and I live in Chatham and we go to Mario's about once a month (or every six weeks) if possible. The pizza is good, the pasta is great, and the swandiches - well they can fill one up even without the sides. The sides are incredible, too. My wife is addicted to the tortellini soup.
I love their lunch buffet. Great pizza and pasta. The staff is so friendly.
