I recently moved to the area and needed a new stylist. After reading the reviews on several salons, I decided to try Salon Dacota. I'm really particular about my hair (as most women are), but I don't want to break the bank. I was excited when my stylist seemed to listen to me, what I wanted for my hair, etc. And then she started.... doing what I didn't want. E.g. I said minimal highlights (5 or 6 foils) - I ended up with 12 or 13. I said I'd like to clean up my cut and keep as much length as possible.. - she took an inch or more off of my already relatively short hair. All the while she never asked me a thing about myself and proceeded to tell me about herselft and chat with the other stylists.

I'll admit when I left I looked good, but it really wasn't what I'd asked for... and then I got the bill! With my new customer discount (25% off your most expensive service) it was $163 before tip- I had the cashier double-check since it seemed so high. Sure enough that was the correct amount.

Then I calculated what it would have been without the discount - $180 BEFORE TAX and TIP! I get a cut , highlights and retouched color every 8 weeks. and $200 before TIP is just a bit too rich for my bank account, especially if I don't feel that they listened to me . I had been paying $130 (incl tax and tip) at my old salon in Kirkwood, so as far as Salon Dacota is concerned, I would say go if money is no object and you're okay with letting someone else dictate your style.

BTW, know before you go: they only accept gratuities in cash or check - you can't add them to your bill if you're paying with a debit or credit card.

Zen Glamour: Although the owners have taken great care in creating a serene, comfortable environment, they have also hired the most talented hair professionals they can find. Although my stylist and my personal favorite is Derek, I see what the other stylists are able to create, and they are all skilled artists. They listen and give educated advice. You simply can't go wrong with a visit to Salon Dacota. If you join the "Club Dacota," you get discounts on lots of things, and the coolest birthday gift. I just love it, and have no problem recommending it with confidence to all of my friends!
