We spent $41 on take out dinner for 2.....quite expensive I think but with 2 little kids you do what you can for a "night out". My husband ordered steak modiga and just got steak....no sauce. Our order was also missing parmesan cheese, after the bartender asked me if I wanted some. I called to let them know our order was incorrect. I was expecting a 50% discount or a coupon for future order. I laughed at the person on the phone when he offered me a $1 credit!
I also think it is strange that this restaurant used to be in Ballwin. The location hasn't moved but now that Ballwin restaurants are non-smoking this restaurant is now in Ellisville! How did they swing that move????? The place is still a smoke filled den!
This restaurant apparently is located outside the Ballwin city limits because as I walked in the door into the foyer I could smell heavy cigarette smoke and was already disappointed. Since it was late and there wasn't a wait we decided to stay. It's a very dark atmosphere extremely difficult to read the menu -- wasn't sure if they were trying to hide the decor. The last time I'd been there was about 17 years ago. My husband thought that things looked like they were stuck in a time warp from the 1970's. As far as the food goes -- I was pleasantly surprised. The bread was warm and soft. The Italian salad was loaded with tons of cheese --almost difficult to find lettuce. The pasta was average Italian. I may return and try it again in another 17 years, unless they become a non-smoking restaurant before then.
We went there because my husband had a birthday discount coupon.
The worst part of the whole meal was the bread - gun wadding. At the very least at an Italian restaurant I would expect crusty Italian bread or rolls. This was awful. I then ordered garlic bread at $4.95 for 6 pieces, thinking it might be better - same bread, just toasted.
My husband ordered beer - came in a bottle, no glass. We asked for a glass - it never came.
I had hot tea - no teapot or saucer. I I had to ask for more hot water.
My salad was very good, but I couldn't even taste the dressing. So I asked for more. It came in a small bowl - but no spoon, and no spoon had come wrapped inside our napkins.
In all fairness, my husband enjoyed his lausagne and our salads were quite fresh and good.
Would we go there again - definitely not.
