Some of the best authentic Mexican food I have tasted in St. Louis. Excellent tacos de chicharron. Excellent caldo de meatballs. Very good horchata. Clean bathrooms and very friendly atmosphere. Margaritas sucked however, as they were watered down big time. If not for the margaritas, I'd give them 5 stars.
I was surprised, and very pleased by the great service from the wait staff. Good food is best served with good humor. We had some great laughs accompanied by excellent, really excellent food.
We'll be back -- Again and Again.
Hello,
I work for the St. Louis Post dispatch. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience at Pueblo Nuevo, during my visit. In fact, it was a very short visit. A colleague and I (a Latina) decided to try out this restaurant on our day off.
We walked in, I made eye contact with the girl in the kitchen that waved her hand for us to sit anywhere and we walked to a table where a waiter was cleaning off in the front, next to a 2-person table. We looked at the 2-person table but it looked too small, so we waited for the waiter to finish cleaning the 4-person table and proceed to sit.
The waiter then asked us to sit at a 2-person table and I told him "it was too small," then he proceeded to address me and telling us "well, it gets crowded in here on Friday's" looking at the door, where no one was waiting. We looked at him and I told my colleague, "Letâs go." Then we left the restaurant with a "bad taste" in our mouths.
If we were given the choice to sit down by another person, someone else shouldn't have told us to sit at another table in front of a crowd of people in the restaurant.
So with that being said, we will publish an article about this experience at this restaurant on âHow a Latina was discriminated at a Mexican restaurant.â How ironic!
Needless to say we will NEVER return there again!

Went back a second time and the food was consistantly good again. Chiliquiles in salsa verde were very good. Black bean soup was delicious. Tacos de Chicharron were great. Tacos al Pastor were pretty good. Margaritas were again watered down. Service was fast and friendly and the restaurant and restrooms were clean. I'll give them 4.5 stars, but with the watered down margaritas, they'll not get the whole 5th star in my book. If they served maragaritas like those as Los Tarascos, I'd give them 5 stars.
