| About: | Going to this Italian restaurant is like going to a photo museum of famous St. Louisians. All of the walls are practically covered by 8"x10" autographed photos of local celebrities. The restaurant lacks an Italian feel, but fits in with the downtown scheme as being a building preserved from the early 1900s. Charlie Gitto's chefs like to experiment with traditional Italian recipes. For example, they throw in vegetables like mushrooms and olives for extra flavor. Some of the dishes include Spaghetti, Lasagna, Chicken Picata and American food with an Italian flavor. Autographed photos of local celebrities adorn the walls. |

My husband and I ate there on a recent weekend getaway. We happened across it looking for a place to eat on a Saturday night. It was nice to be able to get right in and enjoy such a tasty meal. The service was good. We had the baked penne and one of their sandwiches; both were excellent.
This restaurant is within walking distance of many of the hotels. It's worth trying out if you are in the area.
I can not speak about any dish but the one I eat. I recommend the Baked Penne. I really like it. I can't recommend anything else because I haven't tried anything else.
i ate there last week during a convention i was at. it was close and highly recomended. and it sucked. i ordered the osso buoco . a smothered veal shank and it came out cold. the marrow in the bone was so cold it was like tasting lard from a can. the meat was tought and not any flavor to the meat or gravy lol. i paid 24.99 for crap.

I have eaten here regularly, for more than a decade, and never had a meal like this person describes. Sounds made up. The restaurant is way too busy for food to come out cold from the kitchen, unless it's supposed to be served cold. This restaurant is a St. Louis institution, family run, and the owner, Charlie, himself, is almost always on site when I go there. Can't imagine an experience like arkie boy describes. I highly doubt it, in fact.
