| About: | Antoine Soulard, one of the original proprietors of the historic Soulard neighborhood in south St. Louis, was a native of New Orleans. The Cajun zest was definitely not lost in transition to the north, and the 1860's Hard Shell Cafe substantiates the Delta legacy. The cafe is one of 3 sites conjoined at the kitchen, with the 1860's Saloon and Geyer House providing diverse experiences. The Saloon has a tavern feel, complete with a house band. A dinner at the Hard Shell energizes the evening with the band gratis. And don't be fooled by the rugged facade. Let's just say that after indulging in the crawfish etouffee and the jalepeno cornbread, it's a wrap. You'll be back. |

If you're in Soulard and are feeling hungry this is the place to stop. My parents and i stayed in St. Louis the night before and decided to stop in Soulard for lunch. We typed in a search for restaurants into our GPS and came up with a different one, but we saw this place one the way and decided to stop. My mom got the special which was a crab cake sandwich with the slaw and both were delicious and so was dad's French dip sandwich and fries. I got the chicken breast sandwich which when it got to the table was a surprise becasue it was huge and delicious. I would defenately recommend this place for any one who wants really good food at a relly good price.
Fun. Fun. Fun. Even a week day can turn into a party. Great music, intimate setting and great staff. I have wondered sometimes if everyone in the bar is a guest band member. It is not uncommon for someone in the bar to come on stage and skool you on some blues. This is the closest thing to a Nashville bar St. Louis has
