Outstanding Italian food is the hallmark of this casual, yet fashionable, Midtown restaurant. The outdoor dining area adds to the European ambiance. Try the wonderful tortellini in cream sauce, or the equally good chicken with almonds and raisins. Even the pastas are something special, like the fettuccine with ricotta cheese and eggplant. For dessert, they have a mouth-watering tiramisu. But this is not the restaurant to visit if you are in a rush. The service unfortunately has a rather relaxed, Italian attitude.
The service was the worst experience I've ever had..waiter did not provide menus upon arrival and proceeded to go straight to the specials after 30 minutes of sitting at the table (at least water was already provided for the wait). Once we finally got the waiter to provide menus he wanted us to order wine (which we did not partake), then our party of (8) were never offered any other type of beverage (I imagine it's because we didn't order wine; we must not have been thirsty?) Once the food came it was not what was ordered, however after 2 hours of wait time, who would complain (we ate)Did you know that "puree" means mashed potato in French????No? me either....Food was delicious, friends entertaining and fun (as always), service was truely lacking - is this European style??? America is patient, but not that patient.....the food is the only thing keeping this establishment in business for the last 25 years
I found this restaurant for the first time today, and I'm glad I did! After a month in Europe, I've been aching for the Italian dish carpaccio, is this is one of the only restaurant in St. Louis that serves it.
Bar Italia's charming patio and mediterranean-modern interior is coupled perfectly with wonderful service; you are treated (and this follows nicely with the good nature of the Italian people) as an honored friend. This restaurant does a wonderful thing: it is upscale enough while still making you feel right at home. At Bar Italia, you are a member of the family.
But the food is what you're here for, right? Bar Italia is equipped with an outstanding menu. Try the carpaccio - it's almost as good as it is in Rome - and don't skimp out on dessert, no matter how full you are. The food here is very well priced, so you don't need to feel nervous when you get your bill! On a last note, if you come on Fridays, you might have Justin as your server, and he is truly excellent.
At one time the best Italian place in town: Owned by Ethiopian brothers, the foot is excellent and the experience wonderful. The shine has faded a bit and the enthousiasm of the old days are no more, but it is still one of the better places to go for Italian.
